The director of vessel technology is responsible for the overall technology management of the Hornblower Group’s vessel fleet and all on-board IT. He/she is responsible for system troubleshooting and error resolution with users and vendors across all piers, offices and ticket booths. This includes the security of the infrastructure, connectivity, Wi-Fi, ticketing scanners, point-of-sale systems, and the concessions.

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody Hornblower’s RESPECT SERVICE SYSTEM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the overall IT vessel operation for the Hornblower Group, including all core information systems, including ticket booth buildouts, vessels' IT infrastructure buildouts, and food and beverage (F&B) systems such as Aloha.
  • Implements, manages and maintains all vessel- and pier-related networking, including cellular, broadband, Wireless WAN and SD-WAN.
  • Prepares deployment plans for ticket booths and vessel technology rollouts, including related F&B systems.
  • Manages IT capital expenses and requests for all on-vessel and harbor IT systems.
  • Responsible for reinforcement of department and company standards through training.
  • Manages the IT infrastructure on and off the vessel for optimal connectivity.
  • Oversees the selection and purchase of new systems hardware and software.
  • Oversees any helpdesk requests correlated to vessel on-board systems.
  • Takes a proactive approach in assisting with vendor upgrades and vessel-specific systems.
  • Responsible for being “on call” during designated times to respond to after-hours troubleshooting and error resolution as related to vessel operations.
  • Works in conjunction with and provides back-up support to the IT team on tasks and scheduled systems projects as needed.
  • Collaborates with the chief technology officer and/or vice president of information technology on any new IT initiatives impacting vessels.
  • Collaborates with fellow directors in Information Systems, Help Desk, and Product Management to provide complete support to the entire business.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • At least five years in a marine-based IT environment required
  • At least three years of management experience preferred
  • Travel to all Hornblower Group ports as needed; upon initial onboarding, touch every vessel to understand the systems and their configuration
  • Experience with WheelHouse MMS is preferred
  • Experience with Crunchtime is preferred
  • Experience with networking technologies Cisco Meraki and Cato SD-WAN preferred
  • Must be able to accurately follow instructions, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Must be willing and able to be “on call” for after-hour IT emergencies
  • Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand and arm movements frequently, and squeezing and overhead reaching occasionally
  • Must be able to stand on feet and walk throughout the day, including walking on uneven ground
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to bend, squat, push, pull frequently
