Caballero is also a Women Leading Travel & Hospitality member! In this member spotlight, we asked her a series of questions about her work, leadership philosophies, and more so you can get to know her better

  1. What’s the best book you’ve read recently?
    The Day That Changed Everything“.
  2. What do you love most about the industry?
Connecting with new people! I love that this industry allows me to meet people from all over the world and a lot of those relationships have become long lasting friendships. Even if I do not see many of them as often as I would like there is no change in our relationship when we do connect in person. They are all amazing people.
  3. What is something the community may be surprised to learn about you?
I never enjoyed working out, it was always a chore. But I got a Peloton, and now it has become a part of my daily routine. If I do not work out, I feel like I am missing something. I still get surprised by it but I finally found what gets me excited to work out and decompress.
  4. What’s the toughest part of being in charge?
Constructive criticism. It is challenging to have these conversations because criticism of any kind can be hard to give and receive, but as leaders it is our responsibility to guide our team in a way that boosts employee morale and improves performance. It is all about balance and delivery.
  5. What’s the best way you motivate team members?
Acknowledging their hard work and recognizing their wins no matter how big or small. But most importantly, getting to know them, having an open communication policy, and understanding what their preferences are could go a long way.
  6. What woman inspires you right now and why?
Definitely my mom. She is one of the strongest people I know and she worked very hard to provide a better life for me. There is so much to say about her and her resilience, but I would finish by saying she inspires me to be the best version of myself and to never give up no matter the circumstances.
  7. Where do you believe the future of the industry is headed?
I think the future is bright! The pandemic has taught us many things but I think some of the most important ones are to enjoy life with the people we love, the outdoors, and travel.  People are looking to travel, experience different cultures, and unique experiences, so the industry will continue to benefit from this.
  8. What is one thing you look for when interviewing a potential candidate?
Communication skills are key for me. But, I also take into consideration how well the potential candidate would fit into our team.
  9. What’s something that you learned about yourself in the past year?
Self care is important and I am stronger than I give myself credit for.
  10. What’s your favorite podcast?
I don’t listen to podcasts. Though I am open to suggestions for a good one!
  11. What values are most important to you as a leader?
    Integrity, communication, and honesty.
  12. What’s the most important thing people should know about you?
I have no regrets. Everything that has happened to me has taught me a valuable lesson that ultimately helps me become a better person.
  13. Do you prefer to work in the office, at home, or hybrid?
I prefer to work at home because I am so used to my routine and I prefer to avoid the traffic. But I also enjoy spending some face time with our peers whenever possible.
  14. Where is your favorite place you’ve traveled to?
St. John. It is so beautiful and peaceful and it brings back great memories.
  15. What is a top item on your bucket list?
I would love to travel to Tahiti.
  16. What do you do to recharge?
Take a few days away with my family even if it is just to disconnect and simply relax on the beach.
  17. What is your biggest accomplishment?
Being there for my family while also building my career and making healthy lifestyle changes are one of my biggest accomplishments. I want my daughter to know women are strong and we are able to accomplish anything we set our minds to.
  18. What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?
Never give up! Stay true to your values and speak up. Always believe in yourself and learn from your experiences. And have a good work-life balance.
  19. What gets you up in the morning?
Coffee! On a serious note, my daughter. She inspires me to be better than the day before and I want to be there for her to guide her and be her biggest cheerleader. Every day is a new opportunity to do just that.
