Attracting and Retaining Talent in the New World of Work, a Virtual Workshop hosted by Women Leading Travel & Hospitality on June 16, showcased the new world of work and how it translates to current work models. WLT&H’s Melissa Campanelli facilitated the session, which was hosted by Denise Kramp and Craig Rowley, senior client partners at Korn Ferry.
During the past two years, corporations have seen massive changes in their workforces. Employees are leaving for other industries or have just become tired of their own. To combat this, the work model in the travel and hospitality industry, as with many others, has been forced to change drastically.
“The global business climate is changing fast,” Kramp said. “It feels like we’re living every day in the Kardashians.”
The monotony experienced by work-from-home employees has caused a serious case of burnout. No longer can they have actual face-to-face meetings or build the same personal connections they once had. Pandemic work has shifted the mindset of the average employee to work more than ever before.
Employees were forced to adapt to new work models while learning how to balance their new personal lives as well. There’s no longer a clear divide between work and home life. Your meetings are done from the comfort of your home, relationships built without even shaking a hand.
“How do we manage culture? How do we manage burnout?”
The pandemic shifted us from the Great Resignation to the Great Regret, according to Kramp and Rowley.
The Great Regret reflects the dissatisfaction people have long felt in their fields and current jobs. With this discovery, individuals have shifted outside of their current positions to find employment more suited for them.
Now is the perfect time to redirect your track, or introduce “cross-pollination,” Rowley said.
Cross-pollination refers to the congregation of employees with diverse talents to encourage collaboration and drive innovation within a single company. By integrating teams and people, everyone’s voice will be heard and more needs will be met.
Previously, a voice or group of voices could be easily lost when many ideas are being introduced. Today’s digital work model is encouraging new voices to present themselves. Participation is now quick and easy, and sometimes even anonymous.
The new world of work has brought about more inclusion and collaboration than ever before. Even without seeing your colleagues face-to-face, it has never been easier to communicate and connect.
