Natasha Paris, a mental health expert, licensed clinical therapist and empowerment strategist, believes that every individual has the potential to live a fulfilling and purposeful life. Her approach is centered around helping women cultivate self-awareness, identify their values and goals, and create actionable steps towards achieving them.
At the Women Leading Travel & Hospitality New York Roundtable event last month, Paris spoke to female leaders in the travel and hospitality industry about the steps they can take to overcome any barrier that comes their way. As we know, women continue to face challenges advancing into leadership roles due to barriers such as unconscious biases, caregiving responsibilities, societal expectations, and lack of mentorship. The following tips will get you closer to achieving your goals and moving past those barriers:
- Develop resiliency and steadfastness.
- Identify and work with a mentor.
- Embrace continuous learning and hone your skillset.
- Become visible.
- Set boundaries and communicate.
- Prioritize self-care.
- Learn to say no.
- Disconnect from work.
- Schedule breaks to reset and recharge.
- Seek and support meaningful connections.
Paris says that implementing these tips will not only help you overcome barriers that come your way, but will also make you a better collaborator, leader and ally.
