Amy is also a Women Leading Travel & Hospitality member! In this member spotlight, we asked her a series of questions so you can get to know her better.

  1. What’s the best book you’ve read recently?
I recently heard Indra Nooyi, former Chairman and CEO, PepsiCo, speak at the Women in Retail Leadership Summit, and I’m now reading her book, “My Life in Full.” She’s so inspiring, powerful and family focused.
  2. What’s a tip you have for productively leading a remote or hybrid team?
Having weekly team meetings, including video team meetings, in addition to one-to-one touchbases are great to feel most connected to your team. Also, planning time to get together when you can for outside-of-work activities. It’s good to take good notes on what your team likes individually so you can personalize your conversations and any interactions you have with them.
  3. What’s the toughest part of being in charge?
I’m a relationship builder, but determining where to draw the line for social gatherings and coaching situations when you really have a connection with a team member. Also once a team member has proven they can work autonomously — understanding that balance of getting involved and trusting they’re doing everything they can to ensure an event is being executed to its greatest potential.
  4. What’s the best way you motivate team members?
Sounds ultra simple, but truly understanding what motivates them and then encourage, reward and prioritize them in that way!
  5. What woman inspires you right now and why?
Right now my nieces and nephews are inspiring me. They are a variety of ages (11 of them in total!) and seeing them all experience middle school, high school, college, and babies, and just seeing them navigate and guide them has been very powerful for me!
  6. What’s one thing you look for when interviewing a job candidate?
Authenticity. I want their true personality to come out and see how they’re going to be day to day and not be so formal. Following your gut on interviews is where I’ve had my best luck in great hiring of candidates.
  7. What’s something that you learned about yourself in the past year?
    I’m my own worst critic.
  8. What values are most important to you as a leader?
    Courage, loyalty and honesty
  9. What’s your favorite app?
    Instagram
  10. What do you do to recharge?
Spend the day at the beach or spa
  11. What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?
Surround yourself with people you love to work with, make time for family, and always work hard.
  12. What gets you up in the morning?
Knowing that I’m healthy and loved and tomorrow is never promised.
