Happy Women’s History Month and (early) International Women’s Day from Women Leading Travel & Hospitality!

International Women’s History Month stands as an important reminder of the contributions women have made towards society, culture and history. Its principles focus on celebrating the achievements of women and striving for a world with gender equality.

Each year, the National Women’s History Alliance (NWHA) designates a theme for the month. For 2025, the theme is “Moving Forward Together,” spotlighting women educating and inspiring generations. This theme celebrates the collective strength, equality and influence of women who have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship and leadership, shaping the minds and futures of all generations.

How will you celebrate? The NWHA recommends reading books or watching films highlighting women in history, exploring podcasts or webinars focused on the achievements of women, and supporting women-owned businesses. At work, spotlight remarkable women within the company or invite your colleagues to share women who have impacted their lives. If your company doesn’t yet have a women’s employee resource group, then Women’s History Month is an excellent time to launch one. Get inspired by this year’s theme and offer to become a mentor to a younger female professional in your network.

International Women’s Day (IWD), celebrated March 8, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This year’s theme is “Accelerate Action.” Focusing on the need to accelerate action emphasizes the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality. It calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres. Accelerate action is a worldwide call to acknowledge strategies, resources and activity that positively impact women’s advancement, and to support and elevate their implementation.

According to IWD, one of the biggest ways to help accelerate action for gender equality is to support the supporters. With so many impactful groups across the world delivering critical work that assists women and girls, we can all lend our support in solidarity.

Women Leading Travel & Hospitality is extremely proud to support and champion our incredible community of female travel and hospitality leaders. This Women’s History Month and beyond, consider getting more involved with our organization — attend a regional Roundtable or our annual Summit; register for a Virtual Exchange; get to know our members; or apply to become a member if you’re not already.
